KINDERGARTEN BALL
Four Hundred Guests At Winter Garden
The Riecarton (McKenzie) and Fendalton Kindergartens Committee held its Annual ball last evening at the Winter Garden, when more than 400 guests danced amid special decorations. Cabbage tree heads were used through the ballroom, foyer and around the orchestra. Around the orchestra dais was a brick wall on which a big Humpty Dumpty sat. dangling his legs. A large model mushroom stood in the foyer Bowls of yellow chrysanthemums decorated the lounge and in each alcove were coloured drawings of- animals in kindergarten style* The supper room was decorated with ivy and brightly polished crab apples. The guests were welcomed by the president of the Fendalton Kindergarten, Mr Robin Black and Mrs Black, and the president of the McKenzie Kindergarten. Mrs K. Tilley, and Mr Tilley. Specially invited guests were Mr and Mrs W. A. Anderson, representing the council of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. The convener of the ball committee was Mrs R. ,D. H. Steel other members being Mesdames N. M. Rooney. M. L. Shaw, A. F Hicks, J Clements. O. Body. P T. Watkinson and G. E. Gray. Mrs Anderson’s attractive frock was of peacock blue brocade with softly draped bodice and a skirt with plain front and back fullness. Mrs Black's black velvet frock featured a short, slimfronted skirt, flaring out at the back from unnressed pleats. Mrs Tilley’s graceful ballerina-length gown featured a black velvet top with scooped neckline, the black paper nylon skirt being patterned in ming blue.
