Motor-Cycling DOUBLE T.T. WIN FOR J. SURTEES

Isle Of Man Results (N.Z Press Association —Copyright > DOUGLAS (Isle of Man), June 6. The favourite, John Surtees (Britain) rode magnificently today and easily won the senior T.T. motorcycle racing. , .... There was a neck-and-neck battle for second place, which went to R. Anderson (Britain), with Bob Brown (Sydney) on his tail, third. The race was marred by the death of Desmond Wolff (Southern Rhodesia), who was killed instantly when his machine crashed into a telegraph pole during the first lap. ■ Surtees won the Junior T.T. race (350 c.c.) earlier this week on an MV. Agusta, and similar machines took the 125 c.c and 250 c.c. events. The race was a disappointment for Geoff Duke. He never seemed to get going on his 8.M.W., and was more than a minute behind at the end of the first lap. At the end of the second lap he went to the pits, and after some discussion and head-shaking the machine was wheeled away.

Results were:— J. Surtees (M. V. Agusta), 2hr 40min 39.8 sec, speed 98.63 miles an h °R. r ’ Anderson (Norton), 2hr 46miri 6sec, speed 95.40. 2. R. N. Brown, Australia (Norton), 2hr 46min 22sec, speed 95.25, 3. D. Minter (Norton), 2hr 47min 3.6 sec, 94.86, 4. D. V. Chadwick (Norton), 2hr 47min 15.4 sec, 94.74, 5. J. D. Anderson, New Zealand (Norton), 2hr 47min 58.8 sec, 94.4, 6. The New Zealanders completed an outstanding double by winning the senior team prize today. They also won it in the junior event on Monday. The official New Zealand team was Anderson, Peter Pawson (Hamilton), who was ninth with an average speed of 92.56, and Noel McCutcheon (Dunedin), who was sixteenth with 91.95. Frank Higgins (Waiuku, Auckland) failed to get his machine away from the starting grid. A verdict of accidental death was recorded at an inquest today into the death of Wolff. Race marshals said in evidence that Wolff was on the correct racing line going down Larregarrow Hill, one of the fastest stretches on the course, but at the bend at the bottom, his machine developed a wobble and got out of control.
