Nixon Meets West Indian Premier

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PORT OF SPAIN, April 28. The United States Vice-presi-dent (Mr Nixon) had a brief talk on economic matters with the Prime Minister of the West Indies Federation (Sir Grantley Adams) last night. Before he flew on to Buenos Aires for the inauguration of the new Argentine President, Mr Nixon said he and Sir Grantley Adams had discussed the overpopulation of the West Indies in relation to its available resources and the need to diversify the federation’s economy. Mr Nixon visualised a very close relationship between the United States and the West Indies Federation. Mr Nixon paid tribute to the British Government’s success in preparing colonial peoples for self-government through evolution rather than revolution, with the West Indies as the latest example.
