SPRING GARDEN COMPETITION
~birst To Be Held In City A spring garden competition, the first of its kind in Christchurch. will be held in October by the Christchurch Beautifying Association. The competition will be - held at this unusual time because many gardens are much too advanced or dryed up to be judged in the summer, especially those on sandy soil. This year there will be no restriction on locality, frontage, or employed labour, but gardens may be divided into different classes in .future competitions. The gardens will be judged from the street on October 19. A cup has been given by Sir Ernest Andrews and Lady Andrews for the competition which will be an annual event. The vice-president of the association (Mr N. W. Tillman) said that notice was being given early because now was the time to plant bulbs and flowers such as polyanthus and wallflowers. Entries, which can be made with the secretary (Miss Betty West. 91 Woodham road), will close on October 17.
