ASHBURTON OPEN CATTLE FAIR

The sale for cows and 18-month-old steers and heifers was a sound one at the Ashburton open cattle fair held at the Tinwald sale yards on Monday, with the top quality rows selling at prices on a par with those ruling at the county breeders’ fair a fortnight aeo. Medium and lesser quality cows and steers were slightly back in prices, however Fighteen-month-old steers and heifers brought up to £?*» Ws and £2«" respectively. There was a full bench of buyers, and in genera l the sale was a brisk one. There was a steady sale for cows, with many beasts bringing £2O and more. The top price cow sold at £26 iOs on account of Mt. Possession Run Company, Ltd., brought 5s more than the top price at the county breeders’ fair. The sale for steer and heifer calves, however, was back on rates ruling at the breeders' fair, where the top prices were £22 5s for steer calves and £22 for heifer calves. The ton nrices at Monday’s fair were £2O 15s for steer calves.and £l5 5s tor heifer calves.
