Rowing Club Breaks With Tradition
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. ] Breaking an 84-year-old tradi- 1 tion, the North Shore Rowing Club, Auckland’s oldest and the second oldest in New Zealand— 1 it was founded in 1874—has de- ' cided to admit women members. 1 But the club is proceeding cautiously. No more than eight 1 girls will be admitted at first. 1 The experiment will continue until December 31. Special training nights will be set aside for the girls, who will have to arrive on the beach , clothed and prepared for rowing j because they will have no changing room for themselves in the limited clubhouse space. i The club will provide a race for women at its regatta in De- ] cember.
