70 Remits To Federation Of Labour Conference

WELLINGTON, April 29. Among the 70 remits which the Federation at Labour will consider at its annual conference now being held in Wellington is one asking the federation to lodge a claim with the Arbitration Court for a substantial wage increase. This will be open for discussion even though* the president (Mr F. P. Walsh) said in his opening speech
to the conference today that thera was no case for a general wage increase. Several othqr remits ask for the inclusion of the full 18 ptf cent, general wage order of the'Court in the basic rates of pay. Another remit seeks three weekt holiday per year for all workers, but a further group of remits asks for this concession only tor those workers with 10 years' service la a particular industry. The Miners’ Union has acta the federation to approve, principle, a closing hour of p.m. for licensed hotels.,» The Engineering and Relate > Trades Union requests an invest! gation by the federation of th alleged undermining ot trads unions at the Auckland Nav dockyards by the Public Serrt Commission. In the realm of foreign affair there is a remit from the Norther Drivers’ Union which suggest that the federation should ask th Government to withdraw froi S.E.A.T.O. "as the vast majorlt of Asian people do not belong I I S.E.A.T.O. and regard the pact f being an expression of Weatei aggression." This union also ceil a resolution requesting the Goi ernment to bring down legUlMil tor firm price control, with toil union representation and publ hearings.
