“Red Carpet”

Welcome MOSCOW, April 29. President Nasser of Egypt arrived in Moscow today aboard a Soviet jet airliner for an 18-day visit to the Soviet Union. The President, who flew from Cairo by way of Budapest, was greeted by the Soviet Prime Minister, Mr Khrushchev, President Voroshilov and other Soviet leaders. President Nasser, who heads the United Arab Republic of Egypt and Syria, is expected to invite Mr Khrushchev to visit the Republic. President Nasser was given the full ‘‘red carpet” treatment when he arrived in Moscow to begin his state visit, the American Associated Press reported. His luxury jet airliner was escorted by M.I.G fighter planes. The ‘‘red carpet” treatment extended from the, airport through the streets lined with tens of thousands of cheering people to the Kremlin, where President Nasser is expected to stay in the palatial rooms once occupied by the Tsars.. * \ '• ’u * ' 4 He reviewed the ’ guard of honour from the Moscow Military Garrison, stood to attention as a military brass band played the national anthems of the two countries, and shook hands with members of the diplomatic corps. President Nasser will join the Kremlin leaders on top of the Lenin-Stalin mausoleum in Red Square to review the traditional May Day parade before setting off on a 5000 mile tour of the Soviet Union. In his talks with Mr Khrushchev, President Nasser is expected to discuss Pan-Arab unity and Arab efforts to restore the State of Palestine. On this issue, he will seek Soviet support in the United NationsEconomic questions will also be discussed.
