PEACHES FROM CHRISTCHURCH

Destruction In Honolulu

OAKLAND (California); April 28. The craving of a dying boy for fresh peaches was satisfied today, but not by a case of peaches sent from Christchurch, New Zealand. David Robello, aged 18, who is ill with a collapsed kidney and uremic poisoning, wanted fresh peaches desperately. His mother inserted an advertisement in the Oakland ‘ ‘ Tribune.’ ’ A radio amateur, John Aldredge, of nearby Concord, saw the advertisement. He contacted other amateurs around the world.

One in Lima, Peru, packed 18 peaches in a special case and they were flown to Oakland. David had one for breakfast today.

Mr Aldredge located another supply of peaches.

At Christchurch a package was put • aboard a United States Air Force plane by Mr Wally Wright, of 28 Rockwood avenue.

But at Honolulu, an agricultural inspector, acting under regulations, destroyed them.

War Prediction.— About seven out of 10 American foreign correspondents believed there would be another war within the next 10 years, and most of them thought it would start in the Middle East, an Overseas Press Club survey has shown. —Washington, April 28
