Yachting SULLIVAN CUP

H. Blanchard’s Chaos Wins Trophy. H. Blanchard sailed his R class yacht. Chaos, over the finishing line at Pleasant Point to win the 1958 Sullivan Cup race with a good lead from the second boat. Horizon (G. Mander). The light conditions suited the R class, but the Takapunas and other classes dropped further back as the race went on. Another R class. Impel, sailed by B. Wall, was third Thirty yachts began in a Mark Foy start and sailed into a light southerly breeze. This . breeze dropped shortly after the start and became flukey. The course was altered to one round covering nearly the whole Estuary. When this race was held last month, two shorter laps were sailed. Conditions were completely opposite yesterday from last month’s weather, when high winds resulted in no boats finishing. Lyric sailed by Bob Scott, and Waterwitch (D. Dickie) pulled out of the race to assist two young children who were in danger of frowning after the launch in which they had been passengers, capsized. The race provided no spectacular displays of sailing. It was the last inter-club event for the season.
