INDOOR BOWLS TOURNAMENT
Ninety Rinks Compete The Railways Indoor Bowls Club conducted an open rinks tournament with 90 rinks competing. Two halls, Carlyle street and Lowe street, were used for the tournament. Halswell (L. Hoyle) 16 beat Arawa (G. Jackson) 3 in the final, after 12 ehds had been played. Hoyle led from the first end. Games in the section play were limited to 35 minutes, with a maximum of nine ends, two points being awarded for a win and one for a draw. All section winners and those with six points or more qualified. All proceeds from the tournament were contributed to the indoor bowls building fund. Results were:— Quarter-finals: G. Jackson (Arawa) beat Mulligan (Riccarton); Lumsden (Islay) beat Henderson (Police); Mayson (Deplab.) beat Roche (Fletcher Holdings); Hoyle (Halswell) beat Renny (U.F.S.). Semi-finals: G. Jackson (Arawa) 6 beat S. Lumsden (Islay) 5; L. Hoyle (Halswell) 9 beat W. Mayson (Deplab.) 8. Final: L. Hoyle (Halawell) 16 beat G. Jackson (Arawa) 8.
