HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW
"The Press” Special Service DANNEVIRKE, April 11. Conditions were perfect for most of the first day of the Horse of the Year Show, which opened at Dannevirke today. The standard of jumping was high, and there were some very keen contests.
The best horse of the day was undoubtedly Mr E. Uprichard’s Land Rover (Cheviot) which won the A grade event in the hit and hurry with a faultless round. The woman rider of the year event was won by Miss Judith Simmons, of Hastings, on View Halloo. The New Zealand dressage cha npion horse was Michigan.
Results:— Women’s Jumping Competition.— Rider of the year: Miss J. Simmons (Hastings), View Halloo, 1; Miss J. Dalby (Waipukurau), Rawahanga, 2; Mrs R. B. Hansen (Gisborne), Chief Stuart, and Mrs Hansen, Sports Master. (equal) 3. ' New Zealand Dressage Championship.—R. S. Pilmer’s Michigan (Masterton) 1; Mrs E. W. White’s Skyscraper (Otane), 2; A. Hutt’s Killala', 3. Horse Jumping Competition, Hit and Hurry, Grade 3.—Ranui, 39 points, in 62sec, 1; J. M. Mclldowe (Gisborne), Mandalay, 39 points, In 63sec, 2: Miss L McCormack’s Corrogh, 39 points, in 64 4-ssec, 3. Grade A: E. Uprichard (Chevoit) Land Rover, 39 points, in 66 3-ssec, 1; M. Preston (Wellington), Jorrocks, 36 points, in 61sec, 2; R. B. Hansen (Gisborne) Sportsmaster, 36 points, in 61 l-s c ec, 3.
