High School Sites

Sir. —Rival groups are busy with their red herrings in support of a proposed high school site in the littoral area of Christchurch. It is admitted that the total area of the scattered reserves in New Brighton is large and that a new high school is urgently - necessary, and other sites are available; but these accepted facts are a very poor excuse for a transfer of a site of 20 acres from Rawhiti Domain of 55 acres, two-thirds of which has already been developed as a municipal golf links and other sports areas, especially if the enormous growth and development of the marine subub continues at the same rate for another decade. It is to be hoped that the Christchurch City Council will copy their Hagley Park policy and preserve our children's heritage, and not be stampeded into exchanging the citizens’ parklands for a few petticoat ideas.—Yours etc., RIP VAN WINKLE.
