FALL IN TIMBER EXPORTS

Sales Campaign In Australia Urged (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 11. The Minister of Forests (Mr Tirikatene) is concerned about the country’s export timber trade. He said in Auckland today that exports had fallen from a record of more than 42 million board feet in 1955 to 29| million board feet last year, the lowest level since 1953.

Advocating improvement in the trade with Australia, he said that although New Zealand was closer than any of its competitors were to the Commonwealth, it supplied only 10 per cent, of Australia’s current timber imports. . “New Zealand must intensify her publicity to popularise radiata pine in Australia and improve her service to Commonwealth consumers,” said Mr Tirikatene.
