Cricket CHAMPION TEAMS MEET

Karori And Lancaster Park

Lancaster Park was well placed against the Wellington senior competition winner, Karori, at the end of the first day’s play on Saturday at Lancaster Park. Lancaster Park batted first and scored 233, and at stumps Karori had lost three wickets for’ 55. A trophy has been presented by the Lancaster Club president (Mr E. G. Weston) for competition between the two teams.

A partnership of 81 by J. McNaughton (61) and A. G. Duckmanton (53) revived the Lancaster Park innings when four wickets had been lost for 61, and these two batsmen took the score to 142. Duckmanton was then out leg before wicket to M. Hutchings. McNaughton and Duckmanton drove with purpose—Ducknianton scoring often with high on drives—and McNaughton also often turned the ball neatly to the leg side. A. Dobson (30), and later in the innings, I. Kennedy (43) also batted well. ) J. F. Beck, well known for his ability as a batsman, finished a long day’s bowling with the creditable figures of five wickets for 68. Bowling his medium pace deliveries for 33 overs, he kept a good lengtb and maintained accuracy. " P. Standidge is the top scorer so far for Karori and made 34 of the 55 before he was caught off B Irving’s bowling. Irving's off-spin-ners had taken two wickets for six runs before the close of play. The umpires are Messrs E. Milne and P. Kerr. Scores were:— LANCASTER PARK First Innings
