Hire-Purchase Increase
CANBERRA. April 5. Australians' hire-purchase indebtedness increased by more than 200 per cent, between July. 1953, and the end of January, the Bureau of Statistics has announced. At June 30, 1953, Australian hirers had owed finance companies £88,700,000. At the end of January this year their bill had risen to more than £287,000.000. The £200.000,000 mark had been reached between September and December, 1950, and the total had risen steadily ever since.
