WAIRARAPA DOUBLE
Peter Baffles In First Leg “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, April 4. The five-year-old, Peter Baffles, which brilliantly won the Tamatete Handicap at Awapuni last Saturday, is selected to win the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, the first leg of the off-course double on the opening day of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s autumn meting ata Tauherenikau tomorrow. The field is a strong one, with Summersette, Hot Drop, Gold Pin, India, Balfast, and Golden Bank engaged. Peter Baffles is certain to meet strong opposition, but he has a good deal of ability. The track, which is likely to have the sting out of it, will also be in his favour. Several very smart sprinters are engaged in the second leg of the double, the Martinborough Handicap. Privy Council will race at Tauherenikau in preference to Feilding, and he will be among the bestbacked runners on his recent form followed by sound work in training during the week. The forecast is for fair and cool weather. The track is in good order. Selections:— 11.15 a.m.—Tuhitarata Highweight: Coral’s Son. Salt Spray. O’Reilly’s Bar.
