STRAIGHT DRAW’S CUP TRIAL

Autumn Stakes At Randwick (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 1. The New Zealand-bred Melbourne Cup winner, Straight Draw, will have his final test for the Sydney Cup in the weight-for-age Autumn Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. Today at Randwick Straight Draw looked in splendid shape and worked strongly on the tan over seven furlongs in Imin 36Jsec. Straight Draw was not going to have another start before the cup, but his trainer. J. Mitchell, and the jockey, N. McGrowdie, have advised the owner, Mr E. Norton, to give the horse another start. Straight Draw is at a very short price for the cup and is likely to shorten further if Grenoble wins the Doncaster Handicap on Saturday. In the Autumn Stakes Straight Draw, which has never been considered a weight-for-age horse, will clash with Baron Boissier, now at the top of his form. Baron Boissier looked bright today and seemed unharmed by his efforts to catch Tulloch in the Chipping Norton Stakes last Saturday. Auckland Scratchings.—Summersette has been scratched for the Easter Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Racing Clubs autumn meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday. This allows Spiborough to re-enter the field. Greensleeves has been scratched for all engagements.—(P.A.)
