Soccer COMPETITION MATCHES
No Qualifying Rounds There will be eight teams in the four top grades of the Canterbury Football Association’s competitions this season. NO qualifying rounds will be played and promotion and relegation will apply. Making this recommendation to the management committee of the Association last evening, Mr T. C. Gottermeyer, convener of the match committee, said that the qualifying rounds played over the last two seasons had served their purpose, and it would be preferable to start the competitions proper from the first day this season. The possibility of a club winning a lower grade competition when it already had a team in the grade above was discussed. It was decided that each case would be considered on its merits. If the team won by a good margin, then no promotion would be made, as a club could not have two teams in the one competition. If the runner-up was very close, then its promotion would be considered.
