League British Team For Southern Tour
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) I (Rec. 7 p.m.) LEEDS, March 22. The Great Britain Rugby League players to tour Australia and New Zealand in the coming southern winter were announced tonight. The team will be:— Fullbacks: G. Moses (St Helen’s), F. Fraser (Warrington) Wing three-quarters: I. Southward (Workington Town), F. Carlton (St. Helen s), M. Sullivan (Wigan), W. Wookey (Workington Town). Centre three-quar-ters: P. Jackson (Barrow), E. Ashton (Wigan), A. Davies (Oldham), J. Challinor (Warrington). Standoff halves: D. Bolton (Wigan) and H. Archer (Workington Town). Scrum halves: J. Stevenson (Leeds), A. Murphy (St. Helen’s).
Hookers: T. Harris (Hull), A. Ackerley (Halifax). Prop forwards: A. Prescott (St. Helen’s), B. McTigue (Wigan), el. Drake (Hull), K. Jackson (Oldham). Second row and loose forwards: S. Little (Oldham), R. Huddart (Whitehaven), M. Martyn (Leigh), D. Turner (Oldham), J. Whiteley (Hull), V. Karalius (St. Helen’s). The tour selectors, who met for two and a quarter hours, caused two surprises, by omitting Lewis Jones, of Leeds, and Billy Boston, of Wigan, from the party.
