SHIP’S ENGINE FAILS
Captain Signals For Help
(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, March 23. The Anchor Shipping Company’s 340 ton coastal motor Vessel Matipo bound from Onehunga to Nelson developed engine trouble 20 miles north of Farewell Spit this afternoon and her master radioed for assistance.
The motor vessel Willomee left Nelson this evening to tow the Matipo to port. The Matipo advised the company at 4 p.m. that she had no power on account of engine trouble which could not be repaired at sea. The weather was calm and the ship was not in any danger. Arrangements were made for the Willomee to go to the disabled ship’s assistance and she left port at 6 p.m. The Matipo~ which was Scheduled to reach Nelson at 9 p.m. today is now expected to arrive under tow about 8 a.m. tomorrow.
One of the Anchor Company’s newer coastal vessels, the Matipo came into service about two years ago. Her master is Captain A. McNabb.
