SUPREMACY IN SWIMMING

The famous American swimming coach, Bob Kiputh, has recently conceded Australia’s supremacy in world swimming. Kiputh said: “Australia completely dominates the scene, and should hold her leadership for at least two Olympics.” He said that the feats of the Australian swimmers, men and women, had excited tremendous enthusiasm in the United States. Kiputh trained the Australian, John Marshall, to break many world freestyle records about five years ago. Commenting on reports that the younger swimmers, including Jon and lisa Konrads, may be “burnt out” by excessive hard competitive racing at an early age, Kiputh said that a swimmer’s ability »o withstand this depended on physiological age, not chronological age. Burning out. said Kiputh, was an emotional and psychological process, hot a physiological one. He said that lisa Konrads would undoubtedly improve upon her world records in the near future, and that it was just a matter of time before she did the 880 yards in lety than lOmin lOsec.
