RESTRICTION OF IMPORTS
Photographers Concerned (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, March 10. Import restrictions were causing photographers deep concern, said Mr G. C. Wood, president of the Institute of New Zealand Photographers today. Many were caught with depleted stocks after the summer holiday rush, said Mr Wood. A number had used up their 1958 quota and some had eaten' into the 1959 allocation. There were 7664 people engaged in the photographic industry and the Government and newspaper employees would increase this number to more than 8000. “The present supply position will force some photographers out of business, unless the situation is eased soon,’’ Mr Wood said. “No photographic materials can be made in New Zealand.’’ Evidence to support written submissions to the Government is being gathered and the institute executive will meet shortly in Wellington.
