£200 STOLEN BY SAFE-BREAKERS

Furnishing Shop Entered

Thieves stole £2OO and did about £l5O worth of damage when they broke into the premises of Harris Brothers, home furnishers, of 158 Hereford street, at the week-end.

They climbed a fire escape from an alleyway between Hereford and Cashel streets and entered the building through a manhole. The blast was cushioned by rugs and mattresses. The damage to these and the safe was estimated by the manager (Mr E. W. Prebble), to be about £l5O. It would be covered by insurance, he said. From the office of the Woolston Coal Company, of 650 Ferry road, £2 10s was taken by intruders who broke in through a window.
