DIPLOMAT IN COLLISION

Mr Shimadzu Injured (N."Z. Press Association —Copyright) TOKYO, March 7,

The Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand, Mr Hisanaga Shimadzu, and his daughter were today injured in a car crash. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said the ambassador had sustained injuries to his head and chest while his daughter Eiko, a student at the Wellington Technical College had received a large number of cuts and bruises. He said the ambassador would need at least two months’ hospital treatment.

Mr Shimadzu and his daughter arrived Tn Tokyo irom New Zealand last night. The Ambassador was scheduled to attend a conference of Japanese Ambassadors stationed in Asian and Pacific countries in Tokyo on March 12.

A police spokesman said the accident occured when the taxi' in which the Ambassador was travelling and a private car collided.
