SOCIAL SECURITY IN N.Z.
Simplicity Of Procedure Sought
(Neto Zealand Press Association) ROTORuX. March 9.
“Today we are on the threshold of a new era in the development of Social Security,” said the Minister of Social Security (Miss Howard) yesterday. *
“The tendency,” she added, “is for Social Security to take a positive part in maintaining, where necessary, the individual, or the family, as a social unit in our community. This means greater emphasis upon the welfare work which Social Security can carry out.
“Social Security must be alive to problems that arise out of modern life, capable of assisting neople to overcome situations that threaten to disintegrate their security, happiness and wellbeing. Unless Social Security can thus respond, it is soulless. “Departmental procedure must be kept simple, the language used in circulars, forms and publications free from jargon, and the soirit of the department must be kent in harmony with the task it has to carry out. “As Minister of Social Security, I welcome the challenge that modern developments in my work offer me.”
