PARLIAMENTARY SALARIES
Commission Members Reappointed

The members of a three-man Royal commission to inquire into Parliamentary salaries and allowances were announced by the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr Skinner) today. The members are Messrs W. E. Barnard, of Tauranga, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is chairman; J. H Boyes, of Auckland, a former Public Service Commissioner; and Carl V. Smith, of Dunedin, a company executive. Mr Skinner said the terms of reference would be the same as those of the 1955 Royal commision, which comprised the. sam-3 members. 1
The commission is set up in terms of section 2 of the Civil List Amendment Act, 1955, which requires that a Royal commission shall be appointed to inquire into and report on Parliamentary salaries and recommend to the Governor-General any alterations which may be considered desirable, within three months after each General Election.
Mr Skinner said that the commission was required to report not later than July 31 next, but he did not indicate when the commission would start its sittings.
