COMPENSATION COURT
Claim For £2430 Adjourned
The hearing of a claim for £2430 worker’s compensation by* Irene Elizabeth Ford, a widow, against Edward Wallace Cotter, a nurseryman, was resumed at a sitting of the Compensation Court yesterday before Judge Dalglish. Mr B. A. Barrer appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr R. P. Thompson for the defendant. The plaintiff claimed that her husband, Noel Vernon Ford, a timber worker, employed by Cotter, suffered a stroke after attempting to free an electric saw jammed in a heavy tree branch, and died as the result. Claiming, in addition £5O for financial expenses, the plaintiff alleges that her husband’s death was the result of the abnormal effort he was required to exert to free the saw. The defendant denied that Ford suffered an accident while employed by him, or that the stroke he suffered and his subsequent death were the result of any abnormal effort required of him in his work. It was further claimed that the action was not commenced Within six months of the alleged accident as required by the Workers’ Compensation Act, 1922. . The hearing, which opened in November, was adjourned to Monday, after further medical evidence had been given for the defence.
