Bowls MATCH AGAINST MALVERN
Christchurch Wins For the second week in succession the second day’s play in the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s open pairs tournament on Saturday had to be cancelled because of rain. The colts’ fours were also cancelled, as were the uncompleted games of January 18 in the Manning Cup series. The representative fixture against the Malvern sub-centre at Darfield was also declared cancelled early in the morning, but the conditions improved greatly during the morning at Darfield, and the executive was requested by telephone to send the team. Much work was then involved in getting 32 players to fill the eight rinks, and at 1.30 p.m. the team left for Darfield. The green, which was in excellent condition, was a little heavy because of the overnight rain. The Malvern team was made up from six country clubs—Darfield, Sheffield, Kirwee, Springfield, Coalgate, and Oxford. The Christchurch team won by 182 points to 147. Results (Christchurch names first): Madsen 35. Trubleclock 12; Colville 22, Jenkins 25; Cogswell 23, Main 13; Larcombe 22, Green 19; Crawford 24, Thompson 13; Moloney 21, Clinton 18; Williamson 21, Robinson 25; Moore 12, Elstob 22.
