NATIONAL WOMEN’S SINGLES
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 16.
Mrs Winstanly (Marewa, Napier) was the only unbeaten player after nine rounds in the singles section of the New Zealand women’s bowling tournament here yesterday when the original field of 112 was further reduced from 35 players to three. Those remaining, all from the East Coast of the North Island, are: Mesdames Winstanley, Hamblyn (Riverside, Gisborne) and Purcell (Riverside, Gisborne). These three will play off tomorrow, when the pairs section will also be completed. Although Mrs Winstanley and Mrs Hamblyn met in the last round yesterday, they will have to play the first game on Monday, as, the other survivor, Mrs Purcell is the only one of three who has not had a bye.
