Snow In Sahara And Europe
(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 22. Snow was reported today in the Laghouat region of the Sahara desert in Central Algeria. British workers struggled today to free roads and railways of huge snowdrifts, to reach stranded villagers and maintain essential services. Scotland, the north of England, and Kent in the south were the worst hit by the country’s worst cold snap since 1947. Tonight, Air Ministry meteorologists predicted more snow and that the outlook was “continuing very cold and frosty.” Main-line trains have been running up to six hours late. Two persons were drowned In the Zeeland province of Holland when two inland ships collided in a snowstorm. Both ships sank : and only two of the four men aboard reached safety. ;
