Indian Government Not Enthusiastic

(Rec. 8.30 p.m.) NEW DELHI, January 2:

Indian Government officials were not enthusiastic about President Tito's recent proposals for a conference of non-bloc countries to urge Soviet and Western leaders to meet, informed sources said today. The sources said India had already expressed herself strongly in favour of a summit conference both in public and diplomatic exchanges. -and felt there was a distinct possibility of. such a conference later this year. The proposals were In a personal letter from the Jugoslav President to the Indian Prime Minister (Mr Nehru). Few details of the Indian Government’s reaction are known, but Mr Nehru has frequently opposed the idea of forming a “third bloc” such as might emerge from President Tito's proposal.
