CAR EXPORTS FROM BRITAIN

LONDON, Jan. 21. British car exports reached a record number and value last year. Exports to Australia remained depressed in spite of an improvement towards the end of the year.

Last year 49,000 cars worth £ 13.6 m were exported to Australia—--12 per cent, lower than 1956. World car imports into Australia declined bv one-fifth. New Zealand took 10 per cent, more British cars than in 1956.

The total value of exports for the British motor industry from snail accessories to Urge lorries, was a record at £447m, £som more than in 1956.
