DURATION OF SESSION
Adjournment On January 30 <New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 22. The Government and the Opposition have agreed to try to end the present session of Parliament by Friday of next week. This will mean that Parliament will be in recess during the visit of the Queen Mother. The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) told the House of Representatives today that if the session could be ended early an entirely new session—rather than a continuation of the present one—could be held in June or July. The Opposition would then have the opportunity of criticising Government policy ■in a full address-in-reply debate. Mr Nash said he would like to have the Address-in-Reply debate in the present session continued this week and the second reading debate on the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill started next Tuesday night. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holyoake) said he agreed it would be desirable to have the session ended in time for the Queen Mother’s visit so that the whole public eye could be concentrated on her. The Opposition, however, would lypi aked considerably more thMv to discuss the Income Tax Address-in-But he promised that the - failing accident bit- yud all it could to end the by Friday week.
