BUTTER DOWN IN BRITAIN
10s Reduction In N.Z. Grades (N9W Zealand Preu Association) WKT J .TNGTON, January 21. The weakness in the United Kingdom butter market, presaged last week, resulted in a general fall in ex store prices, reports the Dairy Products Marketing Commission. After Danish had fallen 18s on Thursday—making a 36s reduction in about 10 days—New Zealand and other origins dropped •round 10a. The New Zealand ex store price, which had been at 2605, dropped to 2505. Prices for the main origins opened unchanged yesterday. English butter was selling at the New Zealand level while Australian, Irish, Polish and Finnish were all Is to 4s below New Zealand. The weakness in the market has developed because, while stocks of butter held in Britain are at a fairly high level, arrivals of fresh butter, from various sources, have been particularly heavy in recent weeks. Cheese prices ex store remain largely unchanged. New Zealand finest white was selling at 131 s per cwt, English at 135 s to 140 s and Australian first grade around 1245.
