CORSAIR BAY

Complaints About Conditions

Complaints about conditions at Corsair Bay were raised at a meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening by Cr. W Morris. He said there seemed to be no control Dogs were causing a nuisance on the beach and bathers had been annoyed by speedboats. “Yes and milk bar cowboys with their motor bikes, and also horses.” said the Mayor (Mr F. G. Briggs) The upkeep of the bay was the responsibility of the council, said Cr. A. M. Miller. Motor-cycles and dogs were prohibited. “For keeping speedboats away from the bathing beaches, the Harbour Board is 100 per cent behind us.” said the Mayor. Not so long ago the Harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) had put one speedboat off the harbour for six weeks because of annoyance to bathers. The meeting decided to draw the attention of the custodian to the need for enforcing the council’s by-laws at the beach.
