WOMEN’S SHIELD CRICKET

(New Zeditina Press Assoctatidni DUNEDIN, January 10. The predominant feature of the women’s cricket tournament today. was the outstanding play of the Otago team, which heavily defeated Canterbury. The defeat of Canterbury has now put Auckland in the lead for the Hallyburion Johnstone Shield, with two Wins on the first innings. Otago and Canterbury each have one first innings win, and Wellington has been beaten twice. J. Clothier (Auckland) and C. Sinton (Auckland) topped the batting for the day with 89 and 60. B. Sinclair (Otago) also scored well with 45. Bowling honours went to E. Paton (Otago) with six for 19. Other good averages were:—l. Van Leydon (Auckland), six for 41; P. Blackler (Canterbury), five for 73. Tomorrow the last round of matches will begin, with Auckland playing Canterbury and Otago playing Wellington. Scores:— Otago, first innings, 181 (M. Speight 27, P. Keen 35, B. Sinclair 45, T. Sew Hoy 20; P. Blackler five for 73). Canterbury, first innings, 64 (E. Dickson 17, P. Moore 10, T. Baker 10; E. Paton six for 19, D. Meek two for 15). Second innings, three for 42 (Moore 21, L. Bayliss 19; L. Corbishley two for 1).
Wellington, first innings, 124 (J. McAuley 27, J. McTavish 20, I. Lamason 23; I. Van Leyden six for 41; R. McKenzie three for 9). Second innings. 3 for 21 (A. Skinner two for 8). Auckland, first innings, five for 177-(J. Clothier 89, C. Sinton 60; I. Lamason three for 34).
