VISIT TO COOK ISLANDS

First Inspection Tour By Mr Mathison

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 7.

The Minister of Island Territories (Mr J. Mathieson) will visit the Cook Islands in April or May on his first inspection tour. Mr Mathison said today that this would be a working trip, and he would study on the spot all aspects of administration in the territory. He would make similar trips to New Zealand’s other dependencies in the Pacific later, and hoped to inspect them all before the second session of Parliament later in the year.

Mr Mathison is also expected to be a member of the New Zealand Parliamentary party which will visit Western Samoa in March for the opening of the new Legislative Assembly. The Prime Minister (Mr Nash) said tonight that he could not indicate what the membership of the New Zealand party would be. or whether he, himself, would make the trip.
