DENTAL SERVICE IN EMERGENCY

Holiday Toothache

Treated

No-pne in Christchurch need go without dental treatment on holidays if they cannot get in touch with their own dentist, since the St. John Ambulance Association, with the co-operation of Christchurch dentists, runs an emergency service. At least one dentist is on emergency call on every week-end through the year, and during the Christmas and New Year holiday period there are generally three on call for holiday treatments. This year there has been a greater demand on ’the emergency service than ever before, and the St. John Ambulance is receiving at least 20 calls a day for dental assistance. Many persons apparently do not consider going to a dentist until toothache is .really troubling them, and with the large number of holidays in the last week or so the dentists on call have had a lot to do. “A lot of people have their toothache on Friday, say, but think it will pass off,” said an official of the St. John Ambulance Association yesterday. “About Sunday, however, they are looking for a dentist, and this service is aimed to help them find one. It is only an emergency service and we would not like to have it abused.”
