CHINESE MISSION TO TIBET
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) KATMANDU, January 1. A five-member mission sent by the Chinese Communist Party’* Central Committee has arrived in Lhasa to "weed out reactionaries and those who stand in the way of modernising Tibet on socialistic lines,” according to reports reaching Katmandu. The reports said the mission was in Tibet at the request of the 10,000 strong Tibetan Communist Party which complained to Peking that Tibetan authorities were not taking strong enough measures against the Lamas who last year forced the abandonment of a socialistic programme in Tibet, including nationalisation of monastery properties.
