CONCENTRATION.—J. R. Phillips (Auckland) considers his next move at the New Zealand chess congress being held in the geography lecture room at Canterbury University. He is considered the youngest chess champion in the world. When he was 11 years of age he was the Auckland schoolboy champion in 1953, and third in New Zealand the same year. He has won the best-game prise every time he has competed except on one occasion. Phillips has been invited to play in Australia for the senior championship, and in Switzerland for the world junior championship.
