Sir.—lt is peculiarly apt that M. G. Davies should quote that famous aphorism of Pope’s concerning the dangers of a little learning. An examnle of this would be the attempt to treat with icdine a distressing metabolic disturbance whose cause was serious lack of ascorbic acid, sometimes known as vitamin C. An occasion to which this maxim might be equally applicable would be. s - iy. adducing as knowledge a belief owning no higher status than that of opinion.— Yours, etc., R.S. December 24, 1957.
