(N.Z. Press Association —Copyrighti (Rec. 9 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 17 The United States team chosen to challenge Australia for the Davis Cup is:— _ Vic Seixas, who is 34, Gardner Mulloy, 44, Barry Mackay, 22, and Ron Holmberg, 19. Only Seixas and Mulloy have played in a challenge round before.
Talbert’s decision to leave Flam out of tne team was made late last night, after a doctor had examined Flam, and declared him unfit to play competitive tennis. At the city hotel where the Americans are staying, Flam is sharing a room with Mike Green, the other omission from the challenging team.
“He’s just resting,” said the American team captain. Bill Talbert. “He is up in his hotel room.. We do not want anyone to disturb him or upset him.” “Herbie’s had a tough ordeal. He came all the way to Australia to play in the challenge round—the biggest thing in his life—and now the doctor tells him he’s not fit,” Talbert said.
