Christmas Tree
Sir.—l endorse the letter of “L.S.” Our civilisation is a queer one. The name Christmas is not in our Bible. The birthdate of our Saviour is unknown, but December 25 was celebrated as the birthday of the ancient Persian sun god Mithras Britannica. 11th F.d., Vol. 18. BP 622-624). Jer. 10:3. 4 says: “For the customs of the people are vain for one cutfeth a tree, they dprk it with silver and with gold fasten it with nails that it move not.” etc. This is one old nagan wav of idol worship which has infiltrated into modern thought together with many other pagan practices which have been adopted by both churches and communities. “Ye observe days and months and times and years and I am afraid of you.’’ (Gal 4: 8-11.) Why destroy trees in a practice which is both pagan and unscrintural while certainly not of Divine appointment?—Yours, etc., FACTS. December 10, 1957.
