DREDGE SUNK AT AUCKLAND
Preparations For Salvage (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 10. Preparations for the second stage of the salvage of the Auckland Harbour Board’s dredge Hapai are to begin in the next few weeks. Her refloating is expected to take place late in January. It is planned to float the ship into shallower water before pumping her out. She will then be towed into port. The Hapai, which overturned and sank in Rangitoto Channel during a storm last winter, was righted several months later, and now lies on the sea bottom with her gantry and mast projecting above the surface.
