BY-ELECTLONS SOON
Riccarlon AndKaiapoi Two local, bodies outside Christchurch City wUI be faced with byelections next year, one as a result of the General Election, and the other through a de*th. By-eleetion* for the City Coun cil are almost certain because of the probable promotion to Cabinet rank of Labour members. Mr N. E. Kirk, the Mayor of Kaiapoi, was elected on Saturday as member of Parliament for Lyttelton. He said during the campaign that if he was elected he would live in the electorate. If he does so. he will not have Kaiapoi qualifications, and must resign the mayoralty. A by-election wilt have to be held in the Riccarton borough to replace Mr P. O. Evans, chairman of the finance committtee of the borough council, who died at the week-end. Mr Evans was a Riccarton Citiaens* Association representative On an all Citizens’ Association council. . Nominations for the varkhby Ire likely to dole on January 13. And if an election is necessary. th* probable date will be February 1.
