LABOUR PARTY VICTORY

Women’s Branch Celebrates

When members of the Christchurch Women’s branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held their Christmas party at the Y.W.C.A. yesterday afternoon, they also celebrated the victory of the Labour Party at the recent General Election. About 100 members and guests attended. They were received by the president (Mrs R. M. Macfarlane).

Guests of honour included the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.), Mr J. Mathison, M.P., and Mrs Mathison; Mr M. A. Connelly, M.P. and Mrs Connelly; Mr N. E. Kirk and Mrs Kirk; Mr N. G. Pickering and Mrs Pickering; Mr and Mrs L. G. White; Mr T. Martin, president of the Christchurch Labour Representation Council, and Mrs Martin; Mr L. Mowat, secretary of the council, and Mrs Mowat; Mr J. Palmer, Christchurch Labour Party organiser, and Mrs Palmer; and Mr S. M. Cook. When welcoming the guests, Mrs Macfarlane expressed her pleasure at the return to office of the Labour Party and paid tribute to the candidates. Mr Martin thanked the branch for their entertainment on behalf of the candidates.

A musical programme was presented, after which Mrs Martin presented flowers to Mrs Macfarlane, to the secretary (Mrs A. W. Tongue) and to the artists.
