“QUEEN OF THE BALLROOM”

Dancing Teachers’ Contest On Friday evening in the St. John Ambulance Hall, 10 Christchurch girls, who have been the winners Of previous heats, will compete against finalists from Nelson, Dunedin, and Invercargill in the final of the K 57 South island "Queen of the Ballroom" contest organised by the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing. The girls will be judged for beauty, charm, poise and personality by Mrs R. Stovell-Owen. of Christchurch, and for dancing ability by the world-famous ballroom champions and teachers from England, Mr Jack McGregor and Miss Bemil Twiggs. Winners of the title In previous years have been Miss Audrey Youngman, Mrs Rosaleen Flavel, Miss Jill Calv.ert, Miss Helen Allingham, and Miss Dorothy Jackson. Christchurch girls competing in this year's final are:— Misses Janice Smith, Kathleen Livingstone, Jannette Garratt, Sandra Black. Valerie Snelling, Helene Wilson. Jennifer Stoneman, Caroline Hollis, Judith Slattery and Pamela Franks. Miss Twiggs and Mr McGregor will also judge the finals of the 1957 South Island maiden, novice, junior and senior championships to be contested by couples from Nelson. Canterbury, Otago, and Southland.
