Prison Term May Be Substituted (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 3. Angelo La Mattina, who was sentenced to death yesterday for the murder of Angelo Odorico, is certain to have his sentence commuted to life imprisonment The decision is one for the Executive Council, and it will be the incoming Labour Executive Council which will review the sentence.

A Labour Party spokesman confirmed today that Labour would abolish the death sentence, thus continuing the tradition established by former Labour Governments.

Mr Nash said this morning that it was not intended to introduce legislation to abolish the death penalty in the short session of Parliament planned for late January or early February.
