CONFERENCE OF N.A.T.O.

PARIS, Nov. 27. A majority of the members of the Atlantic Alliance were reliably reported today to favour the holding of the N.A.T.O. summit conference on December 16 with Vice-President Nixon deputising for President Eisenhower. No formal decision will be known until the permanent delegates meet tomorrow at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, bringing their Government’s views. A United States N.A.T.O. delegation spokesman said that his Government was leaving it to the N.A.T.O. Council to decide what kind of December meeting would be held, whether at heads-of-Gov-ernment level or not, Reuter reported. If the Council decides on • heads-of-Government meeting, then we expect that Mr Nixon will lead the United States delegation.” he said. Reports of first reactions show that most delegations were in favour- of holding the meeting as planned.
